Root Beer Advertising Sign/Tray
"Say
Hires, The Honest Root Beer". A great old Hires Root
Beer tin advertising sign or serving tray. It measures
16 1/2 tall and 13 3/4 wide. Considering its age it is
in good shape. There are a few blemishes and a minor ding
at about 1 o'clock.
These are highly collectible and this one is from c. 1904.
Charles
E Hires (1851 to 1937), a Philadelphia druggist, became
"The Father of Root Beer" in the early 1870's
when he concocted a medicinal drink recipe that mixed
roots and herbs. He sold the syrup at his drugstore, at
soda fountains and at grocery stores for home use. And
he advertised his soft drink through everything from mugs,
signs and trays to dispensers, watch fobs and trade cards.
Some of the best early pieces feature the "Hires
Boy" sometimes dubbed the "Ugly Kid." The
boy was illustrated wearing a dress from 1891 to 1906,
a bathrobe from 1907 to 1914, and a dinner jacket from

Anchor Hocking Grill Plate - Green Depression
Anchor
Hocking grill plate, green depression glass, stunning
and mint. The pattern is called Colonial Knife & Fork.
Measures 9 1/2" across, with scalloped wide pleats
around and large star burst center. Divided into three
sections. Clear and sparkling green, no chips or cracks.
Pattern is smooth on top of plate and cut out on the bottom.
This is really pretty and rare. ID-ANTQ44

Pink
COLONIAL Grill PLATE Hocking DEPRESSION GLASS
This
is a very nice piece of Depression Glass from the 1930's.
It is a pink 10" Colonial Pattern, also called "Knife
and Fork" pattern, made by The Anchor Hocking Glass
Company. This is a very beautiful piece of depression
glass. It has some very light scratches to the top of
the dividers, though this is very minimal. There is one
very tiny chip on the rim that you can feel with your
finger, but it is barely noticeable to the eye. There
is no other damage, no chips, cracks, or scratches. Overall
this is a very nice plate in excellent condition and would
make a nice addition to any pink Depression glass or plate

Green Depression Grill Plate
This
is a three section Cameo 10 1/2" grill plate. There
are no chips or scratches and it is green in color.
It was made by Hocking Glass from 1930-34. ID=ANTQ30

RARE
CZECH BRASS & JEWEL BASKETw/4 INTAGLIO OPEN SALTS
"Czech
Glass was only made between 1918 and 1938 after that
the country was to become known as The Czech Republic."
Glass works that are signed made in Czechoslovakia were
only made during that era.
Jeweled metal frame
with colored salt trays
Four
richly colored intaglio salt trays nest in the arms of
this jeweled and gilded metal basket made in Czechoslovakia
in the 1920's. Such a large holder is not commonly found
today, and all the its jewels are present. The colored
glass trays have the classical motifs usual to Czech intaglios
of this period, and are easily identifiable by their brilliant
colors. Two of the trays may be replacements, as they
are of different scenes, but the presentation is very
colorful and desirable. The basket measures 4" to
the top of its jeweled handle, and 5-1/2" at the
widest. Some slight waves may be seen in the handle's
loop and tray holders, but there are no distracting distortions
and no cracks or repairs. The base is marked with worn
letters "Made in Czechoslovakia" as pictured..
The glass trays have no chips or cracks, and no apparent
grinding. They are 2-1/4"x1-1/2"x1/2".
This makes a very showy presentation and is highly desirable
as collectible early Czech artisanship. ID=ANTQ24

Pretty
Light Blue 9 1/4" Glass Knife Star Pattern
"From
the mid-1920's through to the 1940's glass knives were
part and parcel of most complete kitchens. It was an era
in which most everything imaginable was made out of glass
-- from mail boxes to tableware to floor lamps to serving
trays to dresses! Ranging in size from about 7-1/2 to
9-1/2" these glass knives were most commonly made
in crystal [the Depression Glass collector term for transparent
uncolored glass], but were also available in amber, blue,
green, pink, and white. Now, why would one ever want a
knife made out of glass you may ask? The best answer comes
from an original advertisement for the "DUR-X GLASS
FRUIT and CAKE KNIFE" a gadget designed and patented
by a certain John Didio of Buffalo, New York in November
1938"
A
very neat 9 1/4" glass knife. It is a light blue
and has stars down the handle. The blade is rough, it
could be ground smooth pretty easy. There is a small nick
on the end of the handle. Made in the U.S.A. and has pat,

Federal
Glass Patrician Spoke Amber Grill Plate 10.5"
This
divided plate in amber depression glass was a product
of Federal Glass and was produced between 1933 and 1937.
The color is also known as “Golden Glow” and
the plate measures 10.5”. The condition is excellent
- no chips or cracks. There are some tiny bubbles and
straw marks from the manufacturing process that is common
in all depression glass. To the best of my knowledge this
pattern has never been reproduced and this is a vintage

These
glass salt and pepper shakers are a vintage pair from
Czechoslovakia. They are cut glass in the typical Czech
fashion.. The covers are also glass, I haven’t taken
then off but you can see a chip inside of one. They are

DEPRESSION
GLASS DOGWOOD PLATES
These
are three 8 inch pink Depression glass luncheon plates
in the Dogwood pattern by the Mac Beth-Evans Glass Company.
The pattern is also known as Apple Blossom or While
Rose. They were produced from 1929 to 1932, I am not
and expert on this pattern so I do not know why but
one plate has a more scalloped edge than the others.
They are in excellent condition with no nicks chips

ABOUT
THE MAKER:
Macbeth-Evans Glass Company produced a crystal Depression
glass pattern that goes by two names. S Pattern or Stippled
Rose Band. Produced from 1930-1933.
The
MacBeth-Evans Glass Company is another well-known maker
of Depression Glass. Although not as large a producer
of this glass as some of the other companies, they made
some very well known and popular patterns including
American Sweetheart, Chinex Classic, Cremax, Dogwood,
Petalware, "S" Pattern and Thistle. Most of
their patterns have pieces that are not as readily available
today other than very basic luncheon sets. Formed in
1895 from a merger of MacBeth Glass and Evans Glass,
they were bought out in 1937 by the Corning Glass Works.
They still operated under the MacBeth-Evans name through
the late 1940's before being phased out by Corning.

Green Depression Glass 3 Compartment Grill Plates
Set
of Six Green Depression Glass Divided Grill Plates.
Each Plate measures 9" diam. Transparent Green
color that appears to "glow" in the sunlight.
Three compartment plate with a tiny stippled band pattern
under the outer rim. All are in Excellent Clean Condition
with No chips or cracks. Very few scratches that are
not readily noticable or distracting. No marks from
utensils. These have had very little if any use &
the few scratches look to be more from storage than
dining. These could have been made by Hazel Atlas, Anchor
Hocking, Jeannette or McKee glass. I am not sure of
the exact manufacturer. A Great Addition to your Depression

is a fascinating compendium of the hand-made, mold blown
glassware produced for use in homes and businesses from
the early twentieth century, on through the Depression
era, and into the 1950s and '60s. This beautiful glassware,
produced in Morgantown, West Virginia, is displayed
in over 860 color photographs. The decorations that
adorn this brilliant glassware are illustrated among
the photographs. The reader will become familiar with
the striking colors, etchings, cuttings, and cased filament
stems used to make Morgantown glass distinctive and
immediately appealing. Included in the text are a history
of the Morgantown Glass Works (under various names and
